Christopher Griffith, the male accuser in a sexual assault lawsuit against NFL player Stefon Diggs, is asking a court to move the case away from the Washington Commanders' home stadium in Prince George's County, Maryland.
Griffith filed court documents requesting the venue change, according to TMZ.
He argues that the jury pool would include Commanders season-ticket holders, stadium employees, and fans with a rooting or financial interest in Diggs staying in good standing with the team.
Diggs signed with the Commanders in August and scored a touchdown in their Week 1 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
In his motion, Griffith said Diggs' connection to the Commanders matters because jurors will decide whether his claims that Diggs drugged and sexually battered him are true or fabricated.
He expressed fear of the "ordinary tendency to extend the benefit of the doubt to a hometown figure who success one has some stake in, particularly against an accusation that would damage a season the local team and its fans have invested in."
The judge has not yet ruled on the request.
As TMZ first reported, Diggs sued Griffith for defamation, claiming Griffith made up lies about being sexually assaulted at Diggs' Maryland home in 2023.
Griffith countersued, accusing Diggs of drugging him, masturbating in front of him, and then having him beaten to keep quiet about the alleged advances.
