Xiaomi has introduced the Mijia Smart Thermometer and Hygrometer 3 Pro, an upgrade to its most affordable smart home sensor after more than four years.
The device is listed for crowdfunding on Xiaomi Youpin at 114 yuan, roughly $17.
It succeeds the Mijia Smart Thermo-Hygrometer 3 from 2022.
CO2 Detection and a Larger Display
The biggest addition is carbon dioxide detection, which the regular model lacked.
Xiaomi equipped the new model with Sensirion's latest low-power thermal conductivity CO2 sensor that continuously monitors CO2 levels in the room.
A three-color indicator shows the air condition: green, yellow, and red make it easier to see when CO2 levels are rising and it may be time to open a window.
The display is also upgraded to a larger 3.6-inch LCD screen with slimmer bezels.
It can show the date, day, time, temperature, humidity, and CO2 levels, with a single tap switching between readings.
Connectivity and Smart Home Integration
For connectivity, the Mijia Smart Thermometer and Hygrometer 3 Pro uses Xiaomi's Surge Smart Connectivity system.
When paired with a Bluetooth Mesh gateway, it can work with other smart home devices based on changes in temperature, humidity, or CO2 levels.
For example, if CO2 levels go above a limit set in the Mi Home app, a Xiao Ai speaker can give a voice reminder.
The sensor can also send readings to the Mi Home app through the Bluetooth Mesh gateway, where users can view temperature, humidity, and CO2 trends over time.
This makes it more useful for tracking changes over several days or weeks instead of simply checking current readings.
It also provides some monitoring features normally found in a dedicated air quality detector.
The device can sit on a desk or be attached to a metal surface using its built-in magnet.
It runs on a single CR2450 button battery, which Xiaomi says should last around a year before replacement.
