Xiaomi has introduced the Xring O3 as the successor to the Xring O1, skipping the O2 name entirely.
The company has not explained the naming choice, but benchmark results point to a two-generation jump in energy efficiency.
The performance and NPU gains also go beyond a typical generational leap. The Xring O3 moves to an all-big-core CPU design and a new 16-core GPU.
Xring O3 vs Xring O1: Key Specs
Both chips are built on TSMC's 3nm process, but the Xring O3 uses the N3P version while the Xring O1 uses N3E.
The newer chip packs 24 billion transistors, up from 19 billion, and its die size grows to 133 sq.
mm from 114.7 sq. mm.
The CPU is a major change.
The Xring O3 features ARM C1-series cores in an all-big-core layout, with peak speeds reaching 4.35 GHz.
The Xring O1 tops out at 3.9 GHz with a mix of Cortex-X925, Cortex-A725, and Cortex-A520 cores.
Graphics also see a substantial upgrade.
The Xring O3 uses a 16-core Mali-G2 Ultra NX GPU at 1,600 MHz, compared with the 16-core Mali-G925 Immortalis at 1,392 MHz on the O1.
The new GPU includes eight standard graphics cores and eight dedicated NX neural network units.
These units allow games to render at low internal resolution and use a trained neural network to upscale the image and generate extra frames.
Memory and connectivity are updated as well.
The Xring O3 is the first mobile chipset with LPDDR6, supporting up to 5,333 MHz, while the O1 uses LPDDR5T up to 4,800 MHz.
The O3 also brings UFS 4.1 storage, a MediaTek T900 5G modem, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 6.0.
The O1 relies on UFS 4.0 or 4.1, a MediaTek T800 5G modem, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 5.4.
AI performance sees one of the largest gaps. The Xring O3 is rated at 200 TOPS, up from 44 TOPS on the Xring O1.

An Xring O3-powered Xiaomi device has not yet reached Gizmochina's office, so the benchmark figures come from a Chinese outlet, Xiaobai's Tech.
