Apple's first foldable, the iPhone Duo, was only just announced, but one of its standout software tricks has already been recreated on a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8.
The trick is a smooth transition animation that plays when the phone opens or closes, making the wallpaper appear to slide through the moving half of the screen.
It relies on motion data and gradients to avoid a hard cut between displays, and it quickly caught the attention of Android users.
How the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Matched the Effect
A Galaxy Z Fold 8 owner on Reddit, moomanjohnny, saw Apple's demo and decided to try replicating it after realizing the Fold 8 also has an accurate hinge sensor.
He used the hinge sensor values to drive a similar transition on both screens, according to a post shared by Sanju Choudhary on X.
The result looks surprisingly close to Apple's version, with the opening or closing half of the display turning semi-transparent so content underneath remains visible.
It is still just a proof-of-concept rather than a real system feature, built with home-screen screenshots, shaders, and hinge-angle data that Android already exposes.
Samsung does not currently allow third-party apps deep enough access to make this a native One UI feature.
Even so, the Reddit community was impressed by how quickly someone pulled it off.
Apple's version looks polished, but the near-instant Android recreation shows the hardware is already capable of something very similar if Samsung ever decides to build it in.
It is not the first time Apple ideas have inspired Android.
The Dynamic Island led to various Android interpretations, and the more recent Liquid Glass look has also appeared on Android skins.
Nothing is confirmed or even rumored yet, but seeing this transition animation land on Android would not be surprising, especially since a Redditor already proved it is possible.
