HMD is reportedly preparing a refresh of its budget-friendly Key series. Leaked details point to a modest upgrade over the previous model.

Tipster smashx_60 claims the upcoming HMD Key 2 will be powered by a Unisoc SC9863A processor. This chip keeps the device firmly in the entry-level segment.

The phone is expected to come in black and green color options.

It will feature a 6.52-inch LCD screen with HD+ resolution (1280×576) and a standard 60Hz refresh rate.

For photography, there's a 5MP front camera and a dual rear setup with a 13MP main sensor and a 0.3MP secondary lens.

Memory configurations may include 3GB or 4GB of RAM, paired with 32GB or 64GB of internal storage. The device also supports 4GB of virtual RAM.

A 5,000mAh battery with 10W charging is said to be included.

The phone is expected to run Android 14 Go edition, a lightweight OS for devices with limited resources.

Comparison with the Original HMD Key

The 2025 HMD Key used an older Unisoc SC9832E chip, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage.

It also had the same 6.52-inch 1280×576 60Hz LCD rated at 460 nits.

The Key 2 brings more processing power, higher memory options, a larger battery, and an improved main camera.

The screen size and resolution remain unchanged.

Like other HMD devices, the Key 2 is not aimed at competing on speed or camera quality.

Instead, it focuses on a clean software experience and basic tasks like calls, messaging, and light browsing.

No official launch date, pricing, or complete feature list has been confirmed yet. The leaked details suggest HMD will continue offering accessible Android Go phones with incremental improvements.
