Qualcomm has unveiled new details about the Adreno GPU in its upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chipset, highlighting a major architectural shift.
The GPU will feature three new 'Adreno Matrix Cores' designed to handle local AI tasks with lower latency and improved power efficiency.
This move extends the SME matrix approach Qualcomm introduced in CPUs last year to the graphics side.
Adreno Neural Fusion and Gaming Benefits
These Matrix Cores power the new Adreno Neural Fusion technology, which aims to reduce flickering and ghosting while delivering clearer details.
Qualcomm claims Neural Fusion can cut power consumption by up to 40% while providing more consistent performance.
For gamers, this should translate to better frame generation and image upscaling, with support already confirmed for Unreal Engine and Unity.
The next-gen chip uses a three-slice GPU design, splitting shader cores and other hardware for more precise power allocation.
The Adreno GPU clocks at 1.45 GHz, up from 1.2 GHz on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, while retaining 18 MB of high-performance memory.
Qualcomm also claims the new GPU is about 12% more energy efficient.
Other platform components include the Qualcomm X105 modem and FastConnect 8800 connectivity.
Earlier CPU details remain relevant: the Oryon CPU can reach 5 GHz, a first for smartphone chips, with FlexCache architecture for efficient instruction handling.
