A New York man is lucky to be alive after being struck by lightning during a storm, and the terrifying moment was caught on surveillance video.

Thomas Fahmy, who works for Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis, was walking on Staten Island Thursday night when the lightning hit.

The footage shows a red flash and Fahmy falling to the ground, but he quickly gets back up and walks to a nearby house for help.

Fahmy described feeling a "very intense burning sensation" and severe pain in his feet, but he remained conscious throughout the ordeal.

Remarkably, he suffered only minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital overnight before being released.

Fahmy reportedly works in Malliotakis's Staten Island office, but she has not yet commented on the incident.
