The parents of 5-year-old Saylor Hayes have been arrested in connection with her death, according to authorities in South Carolina.
Georgetown County Sheriff Carter Weaver announced Tuesday that John Herb Hayes III and Geordyn Nichole Hayes were taken into custody in Carter County, Tennessee.
They are awaiting extradition to Georgetown, where they face charges of unlawfully placing a child at risk and willfully abandoning a child.
Saylor disappeared from a rental home in Hagley Estates on Pawleys Island, South Carolina, on Sunday.
Her parents called police around 11:30 AM to report her missing, according to a representative for the Georgetown Sheriff's Office.
An intense search involving multiple agencies began, with hundreds of people participating.
On Monday morning, agents from the Department of Natural Resources spotted Saylor's body floating in the Waccamaw River while on a boat.
The medical examiner is conducting an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of her death.
