Motorola appears to be preparing a comeback in the premium smartwatch segment.
Fresh renders shared by The Mac Observer on July 31 show a device internally called the Moto Watch Ultra, positioned as a potential rival to Samsung's Galaxy Watch Ultra 2.
The company's smartwatch history dates back more than a decade.
In September 2014, the original Moto 360 launched as one of the first widely available Android Wear watches, and its circular design helped popularize the round form factor.
Over time, Motorola drifted away from the flagship end of the market as competitors like Apple, Samsung, and Google focused on premium wearables.
The leaked images suggest that quieter period may be ending.
Design and features
The Moto Watch Ultra is shown with a 46 mm stainless steel case, a circular display with a bezel featuring digital indices, a large rotating crown, and an additional physical side button.
Markings on the back hint at flagship features, including built-in GPS and LTE, IP68 dust and water resistance, and a 5 ATM rating (good for up to 50 metres).
A large optical sensor array suggests solid health and fitness tracking.
A four-pin magnetic charging port indicates Motorola will use its own proprietary dock instead of standard wireless charging.
No official specs, software details, battery life, pricing, or launch date have been confirmed yet.
Still, the hardware cues make it clear the company aims to compete at the top of the market.
If the final product matches the ambition shown in these early images, Motorola could once again become a contender in the flagship smartwatch space it helped pioneer over ten years ago.
