Senator Mitch McConnell has released a new photo and a written statement updating the public on his health recovery.
The image, which shows him seated next to his wife Elaine Chao, is intended as proof of life.
In the statement issued Monday, McConnell said he is working hard to return to his full Senate schedule and to Kentucky.
He noted that he is following doctors' orders with intense physical therapy.
The Kentucky senator also mentioned he will miss an annual festival in Kentucky this Saturday.
He expressed gratitude for well-wishes and said he looks forward to returning to the Senate and to Kentucky soon.
The new photo comes two weeks after McConnell's first proof-of-life image, which drew intense online scrutiny.
The latest picture is cropped so that his hands and lower body are not visible.
McConnell's doctor also released a statement, saying the senator has maintained a strenuous course of physical therapy and rehabilitation since leaving hospital care.
The doctor added that McConnell is not yet medically cleared to leave the rehab facility and return to the office.
The update has already sparked comparisons to the film 'Weekend at Bernie's II' on social media, with some questioning the authenticity of the photo.
