Motorola has launched two Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 flagships: the Edge 70 Max and the Signature. While both share the same chipset, they target different users.

The Edge 70 Max emphasizes battery life and gaming, while the Signature focuses on design and camera versatility.

Design and Build

The Edge 70 Max weighs 221 grams and measures 8.29mm thick. It features flat aluminum sides and a glass rear panel with IP68/IP69 protection.

The Signature is lighter at 186 grams and slimmer at 6.99mm. It has a curved frame and a fabric-like back texture, also with IP68/IP69 rating.

The Edge 70 Max suits gamers who prefer a flat, sturdy build. The Signature offers a more premium, comfortable feel for daily use.

Display

The Edge 70 Max sports a 6.8-inch flat Extreme AMOLED with Quad HD+ resolution (3168 x 1440), a 144Hz refresh rate, and 7,000 nits peak brightness.

The Signature has a 6.8-inch curved LTPO AMOLED with Super HD resolution (2780 x 1264), a 165Hz adaptive refresh rate, and 6,200 nits peak brightness.

The Edge 70 Max wins with a sharper and brighter display, ideal for gaming. The Signature offers smoother animations with its higher refresh rate.

Performance and Software

Both phones run on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. The Edge 70 Max comes with up to 12GB LPDDR5X RAM and an ArcticMesh cooling system.

It runs Android 16 with 3 OS upgrades.

The Signature offers up to 16GB LPDDR5X RAM and vapor chamber cooling. It also runs Android 16 but promises 7 major OS upgrades.

The Signature wins with more RAM and longer software support, making it more future-proof.

Camera

The Edge 70 Max has a 50MP Sony LYT-710 main camera with OIS, an 8MP ultra-wide/macro lens, and a 32MP selfie camera.

The Signature features a 50MP Sony LYT-828 main camera with OIS, a 50MP periscope telephoto with 3x optical zoom, a 50MP ultra-wide camera, and a 50MP front camera.

The Signature clearly wins with a complete flagship camera system, including optical zoom.
