Claude Lemieux's wife expressed concerns about his behavior in the months before his death, leading to a confrontation about his sobriety just hours before he died by suicide, according to officials.
The incident report released on May 28 details that the family noticed changes in the former NHL star's behavior over the past year, worrying he may have relapsed after 12 years of sobriety.

On May 27, his wife Deborah confronted him about her concerns.
The report states he acknowledged the issue, and Deborah asked him to leave the home at 10:30 PM.
Deborah then contacted their son, Brendan, who came to the residence to discuss how to support his father.
Later that night, Brendan tracked Claude's location via phone and found him at the family business.

He drove there and spotted his father's Ford truck in the parking lot.
Knowing Claude kept a firearm in the glovebox, Brendan removed the weapon and secured it in his own vehicle due to the emotional nature of the situation.
When Brendan entered the warehouse, he found his father and called 911 at 3:24 AM. Claude was pronounced dead minutes later.

Officials noted a cell phone near Claude's body with a message written on it, and a bag of THC edibles was also found at the scene.
A toxicology report returned negative for all analytes.
Claude Lemieux died by suicide at age 60. He is survived by his wife Deborah and their four children.
