The family of Jameson, a dog fatally shot by an LAPD officer last month during the NBA Finals, has filed a lawsuit against the city of Los Angeles.
According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, owners Marie Marseille and Jeremiah Garcia claim the officer used "excessive and unreasonable" force, amounting to an "unlawful seizure."

They are also suing for negligence.
The incident began when a neighbor called police for a welfare check after hearing screams from Marseille's apartment.

It was later revealed she was celebrating the Knicks' NBA Championship victory.

During the encounter, Jameson was shot and killed. The LAPD stated the dog charged at officers after Marseille was told to keep him under control.
Mayor Karen Bass called for a "thorough and transparent" investigation after body camera footage was released. LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell promised a multilevel, transparent review.

The lawsuit seeks an unspecified amount in damages and attorney's fees. The family maintains Jameson was not aggressive and should not have been shot.
