New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is facing criticism after asking residents to set their air conditioners to 78 degrees during a heat wave.
In a tweet, Mamdani said the power grid is working overtime and urged New Yorkers to adjust their thermostats to help prevent outages.

One responder from South Carolina mocked the request, saying their AC was set to 69 degrees with the door open for their dog.

The mayor's concern is that a grid failure could be deadly, with temperatures expected to exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit in the coming days.
While 78 degrees may not be comfortable, it is better than no cooling at all. The question remains whether residents will comply.

Mamdani's tweet is a suggestion, not an order.
