A Samsung Galaxy S25 FE owner has reported that their phone exploded while charging overnight, resulting in a damaged bedroom, minor injuries, and a frightening experience.

The incident was detailed in a Reddit post with photos of the destroyed device.

The user said they woke up to loud popping noises and discovered the phone had entered thermal runaway.

The Galaxy S25 FE was connected to a third-party 20W USB-PD charger using Samsung's original USB-C cable, and it was inside a leather wallet case.

The phone was near the owner and their 8-year-old son while they slept.

The user suffered a minor neck burn and singed hair, while smoke filled the room. Firefighters were called, and Samsung has not yet commented publicly.

Some online commenters pointed to the mattress and wallet case as possible factors that reduced heat dissipation.

However, modern smartphones are designed to monitor battery temperature and throttle charging if needed.

This is not the first such claim involving a recent Samsung flagship in 2026.

Earlier this year, reports surfaced about a Galaxy S25 Plus and a Galaxy S24 experiencing similar battery failures.

A Galaxy Buds FE earbud also reportedly exploded while being worn, with the user claiming permanent hearing damage.

Samsung, following the Galaxy Note 7 crisis in 2016, introduced extensive battery testing and safety checks.

These incidents raise questions about why the protections failed, which only a detailed investigation can answer.
