Jay-Z's freestyle rap about Colin Kaepernick signing a non-disparagement agreement with the NFL is not based on facts, according to sources.
The comment came during Jay-Z's Friday night concert at Yankee Stadium, where he rapped, "Buddy took a check, I ain't even mad at him, but along with that check you have to sign a non disparagement."
However, sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ Sports that Kaepernick did not sign any such clause when he settled his collusion lawsuit against the NFL in 2019.
Evidence supporting this includes Kaepernick's social media posts, where he has continued to criticize NFL teams for not hiring him.
As one source noted, "Colin couldn't post about how many days it's been since a team hired him" if he had agreed not to say anything negative about the league.
The timing of Jay-Z's remarks has also raised questions.
Earlier on Friday, it was reported that Kaepernick and Tyler Perry are covering funeral expenses and a private autopsy for Nolan Wells, a Mississippi teen who died under mysterious circumstances.
Jay-Z has faced criticism in the past for partnering with the NFL through Roc Nation to produce Super Bowl halftime shows, with some accusing him of betraying Kaepernick.
However, that controversy had largely subsided until now.
The settlement between Kaepernick and the NFL does prevent both sides from revealing its terms, but that is not the same as a non-disparagement agreement.
Jay-Z's camp has not responded to requests for comment.
