J Arunkumar Joins Mumbai Indians as Assistant Batting Coach

During the offseason leading up to IPL 2023, the Mumbai Indians hired J Arunkumar, a former captain and coach for Karnataka. Mark Boucher, who previously worked with Arunkumar at Royal Challengers Bangalore during the inaugural IPL season in 2008, will be in charge of the franchise’s support personnel, which includes R Vinay Kumar, a talent scout.

Arunkumar will assist Kieron Pollard, who was introduced as batting coach in November after the franchise dismissed him in preparation for the auction. Since he joined the team in 2009, Pollard had played in 189 matches.

Arunkumar has coached the United States national team for over two years and has played 109 first-class matches. Before that, he played for Puducherry and Karnataka on the Indian domestic circuit. He has prior experience in the IPL, having served as batting coach for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in 2017.
