
On Friday, the Kochi stadium hosted the IPL 2023 auction, when Shivam Mavi was purchased by the Gujarat Titans for Rs. 6 crores.
Mavi’s starting salary was Rs. 40 Lakh, which was the most of any Indian player without international experience. The Kolkata Knight Riders started the bidding and held their ground till the price reached 1 crore rupees.
After initial interest from Gujarat Giants, Lucknow Super Giants and Rajasthan Royals entered the bidding process.
Even though the Delhi Capitals participated, the defending champion was the one to sign him for six crores.
Mavi has played 32 games for Knight Riders since his IPL debut in 2018. With an economy rate of 8.71, he has 30 wickets. Against the Rajasthan Royals in 2021, he had a tournament-high 4 wickets at a strike rate of 21.
As a member of India’s Under-19 team in 2018, Mavi won a world championship. When he’s not playing international cricket, he’s representing Uttar Pradesh in the domestic circuit.
