At Friday’s IPL 2023 auction in Kochi, CSK paid Rs. 16.25 crore to get Ben Stokes.
After playing a pivotal role in England’s T20 World Cup winning campaign earlier this year, Stokes has received interest from a number of teams. Stokes has surpassed Deepak Chahar as CSK’s most expensive player.
Stokes, an English all-rounder, was bid in at Rs 2 crore. As RR and RCB were bidding against one another, LSG entered the fray with a bid of Rs 7 crore. Not long after CSK entered the fray, SRH did as well. Stokes was acquired by the MS Dhoni-led franchise for Rs 16.25 crore, the third-highest price tag in IPL history.
Stokes scored 52 runs without being dismissed to help the Three Lions upset Pakistan in the MCG final. The right-handed medium bowler took six wickets while maintaining an economy rate of 6.79.
Stokes will make his comeback to the IPL this coming season. Prior to the 2022 mega auction, Rajasthan Royals waived Stokes. After a while, he decided to skip the season.
Stokes has previously played for the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant, which paid Rs 14.5 crore to get him in 2017.
The England international has batted 920 times at a strike rate of 134.50 in 43 IPL games. With an economy rate of 8.56, he has collected 28 wickets. He also batted a perfect 100 for Supergiant in 2017 against the Gujarat Lions in the Indian Premier League.
