Morocco’s incredible performance at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar
It is important to note that Morocco made history by defeating Cristiano Ronaldo-led Portugal in the biggest event’s quarterfinal. The Moroccan team made history by becoming the first team from Africa to reach the semifinal. Morocco topped Group F in the World Cup, finishing ahead of the 2018 runners-up Croatia and powerhouses like Belgium and Canada.
The 2010 World Cup champions Spain were later eliminated from the competition by the Moroccan team after a 3-0 victory in the Round of 16. Youssef En Nesyri’s goal against Portugal in the 42nd minute gave them the lead in the tournament and advanced them to the semi-final. It’s interesting to note that 14 of Morocco’s 26 World Cup players were born overseas
