Luka Modric, as captain, is “extremely focused on Croatia” when they face Argentina in the first semifinal of the FIFA World Cup 2022 on Tuesday night. The center midfielder, though, stated on the eve of the game that his ultimate retirement goal was to do so at Santiago Bernabeu.
According to Diario AS, Modric said, “For now, I am at the World Cup and completely focused on Croatia.”
Let’s see if we have time to discuss everything that could possibly happen next. However, I have stated on numerous occasions that Madrid is where I hope to spend my golden years. The Real Madrid player continued, “Of course, you can’t guarantee anything, but that’s my plan and a desire of mine.”
After leading Vatreni to the World Cup semifinals in Qatar in 2014 and again in 2018, Modric, at age 37, is a key reason why Vatreni keeps getting there.
Coach Zlatko Dalic gave Modric the reins to the midfield for the majority of the tournament. Modric played all 120 minutes of Croatia’s match against Brazil and 485 total minutes in this World Cup.
Only in the 86th minute against Canada, 93rd minute against Denmark, and 99th minute against Japan did he receive a substitute.
We have hope that everything will go well,” Modric stated when asked about their semifinal opponent, Argentina. This has not been an easy journey; we have had to play many games and suffer several losses along the way.
However, after the World Cup in Russia, things have been looking good. We wish we could have won sooner, but we are prepared for anything now.
