As a result, Big Diesel vowed to give his mother gifts as soon as he received his first paycheck. But Lucille didn’t think that was a good idea. She even turned down an emerald green Mercedes that he insisted she drives. She didn’t like seeing her son spend so much money, after all.
Lucille O Neal Did T Want to Embarrass Shaquille O Neal, so She Quit Drinking
Life was difficult for Lucille O Neal because she was a single mother at the age of 17. Despite having a large bundle of joy in Shaquille O’Neal, she had to go through a lot of hardships in order to support her son in fulfilling his aspirations. And she was overjoyed when he eventually made it to the NBA.
Having said that, she did spend her son’s money on alcohol. Given all the trials she had to endure, Lucille turned to alcohol for comfort. Additionally, after Shaq was drafted into the NBA, she started depending on his income to feed her issue. To hear her explain it, she fought her demons so as not to humiliate her Hall of Fame son, but she quickly realized her error.

In her book, Walk As You Have Somewhere to Go, she goes into greater depth about her choice to give up drinking. The lifestyle adjustments she has made are incredibly motivating. similar to her son, who abstains from alcohol.
Shaq Does Not Drink Alcohol Outside of His Own Home
To be clear, Shaquille O Neal does not refrain from drinking at all. Just when he leaves his residence, he abstains from drinking. Shaq admitted that he abstains from drinking in public. Why? because he was cautioned by his father about the effects and implications it might have on his mother.

It is obvious that Shaq and his mother have a close relationship. They have a unique link that makes them willing to confront their troubles for the benefit of others.
