An 18-year-old male died Wednesday afternoon after falling from a horse-drawn carriage in Central Park.
The incident was partially captured on video, showing the horse suddenly dashing away, causing the carriage to jump a sidewalk and the teen to topple to the ground.
Police sources said the horse became startled by something and raced off. The victim was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Detectives are investigating the incident. The NYPD has not released further details about what may have spooked the horse.
This tragedy follows another recent incident in Central Park, where a carriage horse collapsed and died after eating a toxic plant.
