Last year, OnePlus stated that a 2K display with a 165Hz refresh rate was not feasible, citing limitations in luminescent materials and circuit technology.
The OnePlus 15 launched with a 1.5K 165Hz panel as a compromise.
Now, iQOO appears ready to challenge that position.
According to reliable leaker Digital Chat Station, the upcoming iQOO Neo 12 will feature a 2K display running at 165Hz, and may even support an 185Hz refresh rate.
Current mass-produced 2K screens top out at 144Hz. Higher refresh rates typically require lower resolution, which is the trade-off OnePlus accepted.
iQOO's R&D team is reportedly not only targeting 165Hz but also experimenting with an 185Hz mode.
The Asus ROG Phone 9 Pro already offers 185Hz, but at 1080p resolution. A 2K 185Hz combination would set a new benchmark for smartphone displays, particularly for gaming.
The iQOO Neo 12 is expected to be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, with an official launch anticipated in the second half of 2025.
