Apple has officially entered the foldable smartphone market with the launch of the iPhone Duo, a book-style device that starts at $1,999.
The announcement comes after years of competitors like Samsung and Google iterating on flexible displays.
Display and design
The iPhone Duo features a 5.4-inch cover display and a 7.6-inch inner screen, both Super Retina XDR panels with 120Hz ProMotion and 3,000 nits peak brightness.
The inner screen uses a nano-texture finish to reduce glare and minimize the crease, and it houses an under-display FaceTime camera.
The chassis is built from grade 5 titanium with a 3D-printed hinge cover, and the device carries an IP68 rating.
Apple says the hinge uses over 100 components to keep the display flat, while a custom polymer layer and titanium base plate reinforce the screen.
Performance and cameras
Powered by the A20 Pro chip, the same processor as the iPhone 18 Pro lineup, the Duo includes a custom vapor chamber for thermal management.
A dual-battery system provides up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner screen and 44 hours on the outer screen.
The rear camera system includes a 48MP main sensor and a 48MP ultrawide lens.
Software features include Duo Preview, which uses the cover screen as a viewfinder for selfies, and Kid Cue, which plays animations to attract children's attention.
Software and availability
The iPhone Duo ships with iOS 27, introducing native Split View multitasking to the iPhone for the first time.
The interface has been adapted for the hardware, moving the Dynamic Island and app dock to the side of the screen.
The device is eSIM-only worldwide and supports Wi-Fi 7. It comes in Star White and Night Sky colors.
Pricing starts at $1,999 for 256GB, $2,199 for 512GB, and $2,399 for 1TB. Pre-orders begin October 16, with general availability on October 23.
Apple also announced that the iPhone Duo will support the USB-C Apple Pencil via a software update later this year.
