Huawei's Pura 90 series introduced a first-party external teleconverter ecosystem. Now, the company appears to be extending this camera-focused approach to the upcoming Mate 90 series.

According to Weibo tipster Fixed Focus Digital, Huawei is developing external teleconverter support for the Mate lineup.

A teleconverter is a clip-on optical accessory that multiplies focal length, providing true optical zoom instead of digital cropping or AI enhancement.

The tipster also indicated that Huawei has switched suppliers for these teleconverters, meaning the new accessories may look and function differently from earlier versions.

The Mate 90 series is expected to feature a fresh design compared to the Mate 80 lineup, partly to accommodate the expanded camera ecosystem.

Early leaks suggest the Mate 90 Pro Max and Mate 90 RS could include dual periscope telephoto cameras, with one prototype reportedly testing a 10x optical zoom lens.

Kirin chip with LogicFolding architecture

On the silicon side, the Mate 90 series is rumored to be powered by a 2026 Kirin processor featuring Huawei's new LogicFolding architecture.

Instead of relying solely on shrinking transistor sizes, the design stacks key logic circuits vertically, potentially increasing transistor density by up to 53.5%.

Performance is said to approach Intel's 18A process and early-generation TSMC 3nm technology.

Power efficiency on performance cores could improve by 41%, while peak clock speeds may increase by 12.7%.

Huawei has hinted at a fall 2026 launch window for the Mate 90 series.
