The neuropsychological evaluation of Bryan Kohberger has been unsealed, providing a detailed look at his mental health diagnoses and unusual characteristics.
In February 2025, Kohberger was diagnosed with level 1 autism, OCD, ADHD, and ARFID, an eating disorder, according to court documents submitted by his legal team.

The evaluation was conducted by Rachel Lawson Orr, PsyD, ABPP-CN, who was hired by the defense.
Orr's report, obtained by PEOPLE, notes that Kohberger exhibited a restricted range of facial expressions and a stoic effect at baseline.
She also observed inconsistent or absent smiles in social situations and frequent furrowing of his eyebrows during light conversation, contributing to awkward engagement.
The report lists a range of abnormal social behaviors, including atypical speech tone and cadence, awkward delivery of humor, and unusual responses that often turned the conversation toward himself.

Kohberger also lacked physical gestures while speaking and occasionally had an intense gaze.
Orr noted impulsive tendencies, rule violations, and rushing through tasks, with only fleeting acknowledgment when challenged to consider his role in certain situations.
His family acknowledged these behaviors, agreeing that he has rigid thinking and trouble coping with changes in routine.
They said they tried coaching him extensively about social situations but could never get through to him.

Based on these observations, Orr diagnosed Kohberger with Level 1 Autism Spectrum Disorder, OCD, ADHD, and ARFID.
She also said he met criteria for an unspecified depressive disorder, Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD), anorexia, and Opioid Use Disorder (OUD).
Kohberger had a heroin addiction as a teenager, and his opioid use has long-lasting effects on his daily life.
Kohberger is currently serving four consecutive life sentences without parole after admitting guilt to the murders of four University of Idaho students.

Last month, he wrote a letter asking to withdraw his guilty plea, claiming his legal team was ineffective.
