A police dog in Oklahoma City was dragged by a truck after latching onto a fleeing suspect's leg, as shown in dramatic video footage.
The incident began as a routine traffic stop that quickly escalated when the suspect, later identified as Jose Balderas, suddenly ran to his box truck and got behind the wheel.

The K9 unit, named Dash, pursued Balderas and clamped onto his leg with his jaws as the man started driving away.
Officers attempted to pull Dash off, but the dog held on as the truck drove down the road.

Another angle captured Dash being dragged a long distance before he eventually fell off and narrowly avoided being run over.

Balderas was later taken into custody.
According to local outlet KOKH, he was arrested on complaints including mistreating a police dog in the commission of a crime, unauthorized use of a vehicle after a felony conviction, eluding a police officer, and interfering with an officer.

Dash will take a few weeks off to recover from road rash, police said.
