Paddy Lowe, a former executive director for the Mercedes F1 team, is perplexed as to why the Silver Arrows continue to downplay their supremacy throughout the 2014 season. The Mercedes team dominated the 2014 season, winning all but three of the events.
After seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton said that Red Bull’s current car (the RB19) was the fastest car he had ever seen in Formula One history, Lowe made his most recent comments. When his Mercedes team was quick, according to the 38-year-old, they weren’t quite as quick as the RB19.
Red Bull won both of the initial races to kick off the 2023 season with a 1-2 finish. When Sergio Perez won his fifth Formula One race in Saudi Arabia, Max Verstappen won the first race of the year in Bahrain.
Nothing to Be Ashamed Of: Lowe on Mercedes 2014 Domination
Paddy Lowe told the YouTube channel of formula1.co.uk, “I don’t think any other team has ever had that great of a lead [as Mercedes],” according to the German journal Motorsport-Total. In order to make his point, Lowe noted that the Silver Arrows had the freedom to control their engine power for the majority of the races due to their overwhelming dominance.

It’s nothing to be ashamed of, Lowe continued, speaking of Mercedes’ dominance in 2014. This is due to the fact that, in his opinion, this was the engine manufacturer’s greatest success in Formula One history. Lowe wonders why Mercedes downplays their success in light of their continued success.
Silver Arrows Registered a Record of Winning 8 Consecutive Titles
Mercedes ruled the turbo hybrid period (2014–21), winning a record-tying eight straight Constructors Championships. Lewis Hamilton, the star driver, won six of his seven championships during this time.
Also, in 2021 he came close to winning a seventh (eighth overall) with the team but was narrowly beaten by Max Verstappen (eight points). Hamilton would have been the only person with eight world championships, breaking Michael Schumacher’s record of seven crowns, had he won this championship. Only in 2017 were Hamilton and Mercedes presented with a greater obstacle than normal. Ferrari returned to the title race once the severe downforce and wide-body regulations were implemented.

Even so, the Silver Arrows were still able to outperform their title rivals in terms of victories. Hence, it seems odd that Hamilton would tend to forget the dominance that his team had until only a few years ago given Mercedes’s remarkable success during this time.
