U.S. authorities have delayed the deadline for non-U.S. citizens to have the Covid-19 vaccine until at least April 10; Novak Djokovic, who refuses to get the shot, may potentially miss the Indian Wells Masters and the Miami Open in March as a result.
Because the United States has extended its requirement for all non-American nationals to be vaccinated against Covid-19, Novak Djokovic may once again miss the Indian Wells Masters and the Miami Open.
Since U.S. authorities have decided to keep requiring vaccination certificates for entry until at least April 10, the 21-time grand slam singles winner will be barred from entering the country if he refuses to get vaccinated.
Last year, Djokovic skipped both tournaments—along with the US Open and other ATP Masters events in the United States and Canada—because he refused to be immunized.
The 35-year-visa old’s was canceled due to his unvaccinated status, and he was similarly removed from Australia on the eve of the 2022 Australian Open.
Nine-time Melbourne champion Novak Djokovic had a three-year travel ban lifted in November, clearing the way for him to compete in the upcoming tournament.
Djokovic admitted that it “was not easy to accept what occurred 12 months ago for some time but at the same time I had to move on.”
Those conditions are not comparable to what I have experienced in Melbourne and Australia over the course of my professional life.
So, I’m feeling optimistic about the trip, and I’m excited to play there. As the results show, this Grand Slam has been my favorite.
The Serbian star, who is presently competing in the Adelaide International, started his preparation for a run at a record-extending 10th Australian Open championship by beating Constant Lestienne 6-3, 6-2.
Djokovic returned to Australia to a hero’s welcome from his adoring fans there and said he has no hard feelings about what happened there a year earlier.
When asked about his plans to play in Australia again, Djokovic responded, “What you focus on, you become.” I don’t want to bring bad things into my life by focusing on them.
“I don’t have any ill will. It is my intention to play tennis, have fun, and bring positive energy to everyone I meet.
Lots of love and support; it was great to have a full house for my first match.
