IEM Katowice is underway and is already providing after a thrilling Play-In. We had to say goodbye to two Counter-Strike scene goliaths in the first two days of the competition. Furia and Cloud9 were both defeated by the underdog IHC squad in the elimination round. Earlier today, BIG Clan was also eliminated, and Team Spirit will now take on Team Liquid. - 12:30 – Heroic vs. OG (upper bracket semi-final)
- 12:30 – Ninjas in Pyjamas vs. Outsiders (lower bracket round one)
- 16:00 – Vitality vs. Fnatic (upper bracket semi-final)
- 16:00 – Complexity vs. MOUZ (lower bracket round one)
- 19:30 – FaZe Clan vs. IHC (lower bracket semi-final)
- 19:30 – Team Liquid vs. Team Spirit (lower bracket semi-final)
IEM Katowice has been a complete rollercoaster thus far. Furia, a former Major semifinalist, was defeated early on by the underdog IHC. IHC went a step further and defeated Cloud9 in the process, demonstrating that their victory over Furia wasn’t an accident.
As a result, the lower bracket, which includes teams like Liquid, FaZe, and former major champion Outsiders has been dubbed the bracket of death. On the other side, favorites like G2 and NAVI, who have been perfect so far, are found in the higher bracket and will compete there. By defeating FaZe Clan today, G2 also became the first group at the Spodek Arena to earn a spot in the playoffs.
