More than just good driving ability, racing drivers require a lot of bravery. If you stop pursuing an open gap, Ayrton Senna once said, “You are no longer a racing driver.” Christian Horner, the CEO of Red Bull, can somewhat agree with this assertion.
When he was at the height of his youth, the 49-year-old F1 team principal was also a race driver. He wasn’t exceptional like his contemporary competitors Max Verstappen, Sergio Perez, and Daniel Ricciardo, though.
In his racing career, Horner has only ever competed at the F3000 level. Even though he was racing for his own team Arden at the time, he had the option of quitting the race suddenly and without giving any reason, which is exactly what he did.

Christian Horner Reveals an F1 Driver Was the Reason Behind His Exit
Certain tracks demand a lot of bravery from drivers. And on one of the circuits, Horner had to make a turn, but after watching Juan Pablo Montoya make it with all of his effort, he gave up and finished his racing career.
According to Horner, there used to be a pretty fast turn on the pitlane in Portugal at the beginning of 1998 when he was driving there. There are barriers around three meters from the track’s edge, and it was one downshift right into the corner. Therefore, if there was going to be a crash, it was going to be a major one.
Then Horner says he witnessed Montoya make that turn fully committed as he was leaving the pitlane. Even though the Colombian was being pushed in the opposite direction by the tire rim, he couldn’t believe how the Colombian planted his turn.
At that precise time, Horner realized he couldn’t pull this off. Horner chose to call it quits on his racing career because he couldn’t get his foot to muster up that much guts.

While Horner wasn’t able to find enough success as a race driver, he undoubtedly rose to the position of one of the finest F1 team owners. Since joining Red Bull in 2005, he has steered them to five championship victories.
He could not have anticipated this level of achievement during his racing career. For Red Bull, Horner is already a living legend. And he has made himself a fortune as a result of his achievements.
