As reported by Evening Standard, Napoli has a little advantage over Barcelona in their pursuit of outstanding Chelsea player Jorginho. The midfielder has six months left on his deal with the Blues.
He can talk to any club in the world about a pre-contract arrangement if he wants to. Though, the Italians would rather stay at Stamford Bridge.
The footballer is presently making £120,000 per week on his contract. Jorginho is seeking a modest pay raise and a new contract in the region of £150,000 a week. There has been no resolution to the wage increase talks between him and the Blues as of yet.
Conversely, Barcelona is trying to strengthen its midfield. Future of famous midfielder Serio Busquets is in doubt as he enters the last year of his contract. The Blaugrana could make a move for Jorginho if he becomes a free agent this summer.
Due to the club’s financial difficulties, sporting director Mateu Alemany favors signing players on free transfers. A player like Jorginho might step in for Busquets and provide identical service. However, manager Xavi Hernandez is a fan of Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi.
Meanwhile, Napoli is keeping an eye on what’s going on with Jorginho. The Italian played for the Serie A team for almost four years and made 160 appearances.
The Blues’ fortunes have improved greatly since Jorginho joined the team in 2018. For the west London club he has made 209 appearances for, he has scored 29 goals and assisted on nine more.
