Former Olympic canoeist David Hearn has been arrested for allegedly vandalizing the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, according to The Washington Post.
Hearn, a three-time U. S.
Olympian in canoe slalom, was on a 52-mile bike ride when he stopped to look at the Reflecting Pool.
The pool recently underwent a $14 million renovation championed by President Trump.
The 67-year-old told the Post he only reached into the water and touched a partially detached piece of pool liner to feel it.
Shortly after, U. S.
Park Police arrested him for misdemeanor destruction of government property. Hearn was held for about five hours before being released Friday night.
He denied breaking or peeling any part of the pool.
On Saturday, President Trump posted on Truth Social condemning alleged vandals of the Reflecting Pool and announcing that some had been arrested.
