Microsoft has announced the Surface Laptop Ultra, the first device powered by NVIDIA's newly unveiled RTX Spark Arm-based processor.
The laptop targets creative professionals and AI enthusiasts with significant hardware and software upgrades.
Display and Design
The Surface Laptop Ultra features a 15-inch mini-LED PixelSense Ultra touchscreen with a peak HDR brightness of 2,000 nits and a pixel density of 262ppi.
Microsoft claims this is the brightest display ever on a Surface device.
It also includes the largest trackpad in Surface history.
Port selection is generous: HDMI, USB-C, USB-A, an SD card slot, and a headphone jack, reducing the need for dongles.
Performance and Memory
The RTX Spark chip supports up to 128GB of unified memory.
Microsoft is updating Windows 11 to raise the memory ceiling available to the GPU, enabling larger local AI models and more complex creative projects.
Microsoft partnered with NVIDIA on the Microsoft Power and Thermal Framework (MPTF) to improve performance per watt and thermal management under heavy loads.
Software and App Support
Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Pro run natively on ARM with RTX Spark optimization.
Other supported apps include Blender, DaVinci Resolve, Cinema4D, Redshift, Topaz Photo, CapCut, Cubase, and Affinity by Canva.
For legacy x86 software, Microsoft's Prism emulator now supports RTX Spark's GPU, ensuring compatibility.
Gaming and Windows 11 Updates
Gaming support is expanding. Confirmed titles include League of Legends, Valorant, PUBG, Alan Wake 2, Naraka: Bladepoint, and War Thunder.
Microsoft also announced broader Windows 11 improvements coming this year, including smoother app interactions via WinUI3, an improved Linux Subsystem, better OS reliability, and more taskbar customization.
The Surface Laptop Ultra will be available in Platinum and Nightfall colors later this year. Pricing has not been announced.
