Former New York Mets infielder Jose Reyes has a clear favorite for the team's next manager: Carlos Beltran.
Speaking with TMZ Sports, the four-time All-Star shared his thoughts on the Mets' decision to part ways with manager Carlos Mendoza after a 34-47 start.
Reyes said Mendoza is a good manager and a great guy, but acknowledged that a change was necessary given the team's massive payroll.
He emphasized the importance of a quick turnaround under interim manager Andy Green, though he noted that if Green can salvage the season, he might keep the job.
Reyes also mentioned that Hall of Famer Albert Pujols is interested in the position, but his personal preference is Beltran.
Beltran played for the Mets from 2005 to 2011 and currently serves as a Special Assistant to the President of Baseball Operations, David Stearns.
This season, the Mets will retire Beltran's No. 15 jersey to accompany his Hall of Fame induction.
